About Pleural Mesothelioma

The mesothelium is a layer of fibrous tissue about as thick as the plastic wrap you use in the kitchen. Lubricating fluid produced by the mesothelium allows your organs to move around without becoming damaged.

The mesothelium of the chest is called the pleura. About 75 percent of Mesothelioma starts in the chest cavity, according to the American Cancer Society. This cancer of the lung lining is known as pleural Mesothelioma.

Like all types of Mesothelioma, pleural Mesothelioma is a type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

Pleural Mesothelioma can cause a range of symptoms, including:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Pain in the lower back or side of the chest
  • Fatigue or anemia
  • Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough
  • Coughing up blood
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Fever
  • Sweating
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Swelling of the face and arms
  • Muscle weakness
  • Sensory loss

There is currently no cure for pleural Mesothelioma; however, there are treatment options including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy that may be able to extend a patient’s life.

When you are injured through no fault of your own, you have a legal right to recover financial compensation for the damages you have suffered. We help clients recover compensation for their illness, medical treatment, pain and suffering, lost earning capacity, and more. While no amount of money can adequately compensate you for your loss, money is the only remedy the law allows.
